Episode 4 Autonomous Republic of Zeon
Char Aznable
(Actyally Deikun's son Casval.)

After the "Dawn Rebellion," Char descends to Earth and meets a girl named Lalah Sune who has mysterious abilities. He then returns to space, rejoins the military as a pilot of the humanoid weapon known as the mobile suit that has been developed by Zeon, and participates in history's first battle between mobile suits. Char produces unrivaled results in this battle on the lunar surface, the opening clash in the Zeon War of Independence.


Ramba Ral
A captain in the Autonomous Republic of Zeon's Space Defense Force. On Kycilia's orders, he enters battle at Mare Smythii on the lunar surface, in an MS-04 Bugu painted in his blue personal colors. Leading Char, Gaia, and the others, he carries out an operation to stop Dr. Minovsky's defection. When the Earth Federation Forces dispatch a Guncannon company to rescue the doctor, he distinguishes himself in history's first mobile suit battle.


Gaia
A second lieutenant in the Autonomous Republic of Zeon's Space Defense Force. Piloting the new mass-produced MS-05 Zaku I, he participates in an operation to stop the defection of Dr. Minovsky, who helped develop the mobile suit. He will later become the leader of the "Black Tri-Stars."
Ortega
A warrant officer in the Autonomous Republic of Zeon's Space Defense Force. Piloting the new mobile suit MS-05 Zaku I, he participates in an operation to stop Dr. Minovsky's defection. He quarrels with Char, who is piloting a red Zaku I, and is admonished by Ral. He will later become one of the "Black Tri-Stars."
Mash
A sergeant in the Autonomous Republic of Zeon's Space Defense Force. Piloting the new mobile suit MS-05 Zaku I, he participates in an operation to stop Dr. Minovsky's defection. He will later become one of the "Black Tri-Stars." From now on, these three pilots use black personal colors for their machines.



Degwin Sodo Zabi
The chairman of the Diet of Side 3's Autonomous Republic of Zeon. He becomes the first sovereign of the Principality of Zeon when it is established on October 24, U.C. 0078, naming the nation after Zeon Zum Deikun, who advocated for Spacenoid autonomy. He approves of the war of independence against the Earth Federation that is being readied by Gihren and his other children.

Kycilia Zabi (Catherine)
The commander of the Autonomous Republic of Zeon's Special Service. Under the alias "Catherine," she visits the lunar surface to meet with the mayor of Granada and demand that the city host a Zeon garrison. Meanwhile, receiving word of Dr. Minovsky's defection, she dispatches a mobile suit team led by Captain Ramba Ral to counter the Earth Federation's Iron Cavalry Squadron, which is attempting to protect the doctor.


Gihren Zabi
The prime minister of the Autonomous Republic of Zeon, and the eldest son of the Zabi family. He supports his father as Degwin becomes sovereign and establishes the Principality of Zeon, while Gihren himself becomes supreme commander. On January 3, U.C. 0079, he declares war against the Earth Federation and plunges the Earth Sphere into a calamity unprecedented in human history.
Dozle Zabi
A colonel in the Autonomous Republic of Zeon's Space Defense Force. Taking responsibility for the "Dawn Rebellion" carried out by the students of the military academy, he resigns as principal. He promises Char, who is likewise held responsible and discharged, that if Char is ever recalled he will be assigned as a mobile suit pilot. As he leaves the academy, Dozle also proposes to Zenna Mia.
Garma Zabi
As the commander who led the "Dawn Rebellion" carried out by the students of the military academy, Garma has become an overnight hero to the citizens of Zeon. With Dozle and Char taking responsibility to protect him, he graduates from the academy at the head of the class, and is commissioned as a second lieutenant.



Torenov Y Minovsky
The discoverer of the Minovsky particle, and a pioneer of Minovsky physics. He served as a technical advisor during the development of the mobile suit by the Zeon forces. When he attempts to defect to the Earth Federation, he is intercepted on the lunar surface by a mobile suit team led by Ramba Ral, and loses his life.

Bergmann
A subordinate of Kycilia, with the rank of major. He escorts Kycilia when she visits the lunar city of Granada under the alias "Catherine." She shoots him as punishment for leaking the secret of the impending war of independence to the Granada side.
